Our Learning Next Week
Reading
- We will continue our study of realistic fiction. The story we will read next week is written as a letter from a cousin living in Mexico to a cousin living in America. The students will have an opportunity to learn some Spanish words as we read.
Fundations
- We took the test over Unit 9 today which covers r-controlled vowels. This test will come home next week. We will start until 10 on Monday. This unit covers the long a spelling patterns of -ai and -ay.
- Our trick words are America, country, thought, great and away.
Math
- We will be working on adding multiple numbers together. Today they learned a game called Basketball addition where they added 5 2-digit numbers together to find out the basketball "score." We were very impressed with the strategies they used.
- We will also start learning about different units of measure. We will also discuss the importance of standard units. We will introduce yards next week.
Social Studies/Science
- We will be labeling the 5 main oceans on our maps on Monday. Then we will move into how water moves and travels.
- We will be doing an experiment in the next few weeks that shows how water travels down mountains and can freeze in the cracks of the mountain.
Have a fabulous weekend!
