Happy Friday!

Happy Friday!

We have had a great week with a lot of visitors.  We have had people from Aslin as well as Marshall Public Schools come to see all the fabulous things our Team Moss kids are doing.  They all had such positive things to say about the students!

  • The week after Thanksgiving, we will move into measurement.  We will learn to measure in inches and centimeters.
  • We plan to test the 2nd week of December.

Fundations

  • We will continue to learning about when a word ends with an "e" that the vowel is a long vowel sound.
  • Our trick words are knew, know, animal, many, they, right, place, together.

Social Studies

  • The students will continue to work on identify similarities and differences between our lives and those of colonial people.
  • They started a Colonial Journal this week.  They are writing it from the point of view of a colonial child.  Be sure to ask them what their colonial name is and how they think life is different in colonial time.

    • Written in lines instead of paragraphs
    • Expresses the poet’s thoughts or feelings using rich language
    • May use rhymes or strong rhythm
    • Often written in groups of lines called stanzas

Grammar

  • We will continue learning about nouns next week.  They will be learning about possessive nouns next week and how to use apostrophes.
  • A common misconception is that any time they add an "s" to a word, they put an apostrophe with it, so we will be discussing when and where to use apostrophes with words.

Fundations

  • We will be starting Unit 6 in Fundations next week.  This unit covers CVCe words so we will be introducing the long vowel sounds.  We will be discussing how you don't hear the "e," but that it makes the vowel a long vowel, so it says its name.
